  • Each year, students who participate in English learner programs take the ACCESS language proficiency assessment.
  • The ACCESS test measures students’ academic English language proficiency across our school and the state.
  • Teachers use ACCESS results to guide instructional decisions for your child. Test scores also help teachers monitor your child’s progress toward English proficiency.
  • ACCESS testing will begin on Monday, February 2nd.
  • Please avoid scheduling appointments on testing days.
  • Ensure students are well-rested and eat a good breakfast on testing days.
  • Click here to view the testing schedule for all ACCESS testing days at our school.
  • Students must arrive on campus no later than 8:20 AM on testing days.
  • Students may not possess electronic devices during testing, with the exception of school-issued Chromebooks used for the assessment.
  • If possible, please keep all electronic devices at home, including but not limited to:

    • Cell phones
    • Smart watches
    • iPads or tablets
    • Bluetooth-enabled devices
    • Smart glasses
    • Headphones or personal earbuds

  • Students who bring devices will be required to turn them off and turn them in to the teacher during testing. Compromising the security of test materials in any way is a violation of the South Carolina Code of Laws.

What is ACCESS? States must administer an English language proficiency assessment to limited English proficient students in grades K through 12 in order to comply with the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, 20 USC 6301 et seq. (2002). For the 2015–16 school year, the assessment administered for this purpose will be ACCESS for ELLs® through the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium. The English Language Development Assessment (ELDA) will no longer be administered. Alternate ACCESS for ELLs® is an assessment of English language proficiency for students in grades 1 through 12 who are classified as English language learners (ELLs) and have significant cognitive disabilities that prevent their meaningful participation in the ACCESS for ELLs® assessment. This assessment will also be available for those students who meet the criteria for an alternate assessment.

What is MAP? South Carolina Code Ann. 59-18-310 (Supp. 2007) provided for the creation of a statewide adoption list of formative assessments in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. This section was amended in May 2008 to include grades one through nine. The legislation requires that each formative assessment satisfy professional measurement standards and align with the South Carolina College- and Career- Ready Standards. Subject to appropriations by the General Assembly for the assessments, districts will be allocated funds to select and administer formative assessments from the adoption list for use in improving student performance in accordance with district improvement plans.

What is SC-Alt?  An Alternate Assessment on Alternate Achievement Standards (AA-AAS) is an assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities who are assessed against alternate achievement standards as they are unable to participate in the general assessment program even with appropriate accommodations. As many students who participate in alternate assessment are non-graded, these students are assessed on grade-level content based on their age commensurate with the ages of students who are typically in the tested grades.

What is SCREADY? The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) are statewide assessments in English language arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science  that will meet all of the requirements of Acts 155 and 200, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) , the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), and the Assessments Peer Review guidance. All students in grades 3–8 are required to take the SC READY except those students with significant cognitive disabilities who qualify for the South Carolina National Center and State Collaborative (SC-NCSC) alternate assessment. SC READY assessments will be administered in a computer-based format only,

What is EOCEP for Algebra I? The End of Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end of course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific academic standards for the courses, encourages student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards.
